The longer I do this, the more I realize that picking the right clients makes a tremendous difference to my practice. They don’t call it an attorney-client relationship for nothing. I thinks it is wise to remember that hiring an attorney creates a relationship. When I decide whether to take a case, I thoroughly consider what I expect to be the relationship I will have with the client. That’s correct — I get to choose my clients. If a prospective client is unreasonable, unlikeable, unreliable, irresponsible or irredeemable, I pass. My time is valuable and scarce. It is best that I try to use it representing clients who I think I can help, and whose relationships with me will add value to my life, professionally and personally.
